This volume brings together nine scientific articles developed from the lectures presented at the first edition of ICCD (2025). The contributions were selected by the ICCD Scientific Committee and reflect the discussions held within the conference’s three thematic panels: therapy, education, and aesthetics.
Authors of the articles: Valentina de Piante and Hanna Poikonen, Loredana Larionescu, Loredana Pătrășcoiu, Nicolae Gligor, Sandra Mavhima, Cristina Olar-Iușan, Andreea Stoicescu, Nicoleta Demian, and Ana Dumitrașcu.
Published in English and edited by UNATC PRESS, the volume highlights the interdisciplinary perspectives and research directions explored by the conference participants. The official launch of the publication will take place during the opening ceremony of the second edition of ICCD in 2026.
The volume benefits from the scholarly discernment and academic rigor of a distinguished panel of peer reviewers: Prof. Zoia Guțu, PhD (Academy of Music, Theater, and Fine Arts, Chisinau); Prof. Svebor Sekak, PhD (Alma Mater Europaea, Ljubljana); Prof. Bogdana Darie, PhD (UNATC, Bucharest); Assoc. Prof. Lorette Eneache, PhD (George Enescu National University of Arts, Iași), and Univ. Lect. Andreea Tănăsescu, PhD (UNATC, Bucharest). Their expertise and critical insight ensure the intellectual coherence, methodological soundness, and artistic relevance of the contributions included in this volume.

Editor Mihaela Bețiu, PhD, is a Romanian actress, academic, and acting and improvisation trainer. She is an Associate Professor at UNATC “I.L. Caragiale” in Bucharest, where she teaches acting and performance studies. Bețiu is also a trainer of acting and improvisation, working with students and professionals in the performing arts. She teaches the Acting and Improvisation course within the interdisciplinary master’s program Ped-ArtE, organized by the University of Bucharest and UNATC. In 2010, she founded the academic journal CONCEPT, where she continues to serve as Editor-in-Chief. She contributes to academic publishing as a specialist reviewer for the University Publishing House for the Arts and several theatre journals. Her review work also includes the journals Colocvii teatrale, CercetArte, and the ULBS Sibiu Publishing House. Since 2024, she has been a member of the Advisory Committee for the Postgraduate Programme “Performing Arts” (PEA) at the Hellenic Open University in Patras, Greece. Bețiu is also a Narrative Exposure Trainer (T-Net) and an active member of the UNATC Senate. Beginning in 2024, she joined the National Commission for the Attestation of University Titles, Diplomas and Certificates (CNATDCU).
Co-editor Simona Șomăcescu, PhD, is the project manager and curator of ICCD, respectively Associate Professor at UNATC I.L. Caragiale, Faculty of Theatre, Department of Choreography, where she teaches courses in both the Bachelor’s degree program in Choreography and the Master’s degree program in Choreography and Performance in Dance, a program she founded 11 years ago. She coordinated the publication of Vol. 4, Issue 1/2023 of Doctoral Horizons – a doctoral journal for scientific research and artistic creation in the field of Theatre and Performing Arts & Film and Media, the first scientific publication in Romania dedicated to choreography. She has published books: Classical and contemporary dance: interferences and deviations (Casa Cărții de Știință, Cluj, 2022); Classical dance specialty practice – Course (UNATC PRESS, 2020); Methodology of teaching classical dance – Course (UNATC PRESS, 2019); scientific articles in Proceedings of international conferences: Alma Mater Europaea Scholarly Conference It`s About People (Slovenia, 2023); The 60th World Congress of Dance Research (Greece, 2023); Democracy and Education through Culture – Landmarks of European Integration (Moldova, 2022) and several national specialized conferences; in scientific journals: Concept and Journal of Drama Teaching. Organized online Scientific Communication Sessions in Dance (2020-2023).
