Camilla Greenwell’s photography carries a quiet brilliance, the kind that reveals itself in the details we might otherwise miss: a held breath, a suspended gesture, a moment of stillness between movements. Her work feels like an invitation to look more closely – not just at performers, but at the inner landscapes they inhabit. Working across dance, theatre, and portraiture, Greenwell has an uncanny ability to translate the energy of live performance into images that feel both lyrical and grounded. She doesn’t simply capture movement; she captures intention. In her photographs, bodies seem illuminated from within, shaped by light that feels instinctive rather than imposed. What sets her apart is the trust her images convey. Performers appear unguarded, present, fully themselves – testament to her sensitivity as a collaborator. Greenwell enters spaces with respect and attentiveness, allowing each image to emerge rather than be forced. The result is photography that breathes. It is atmospheric without losing clarity, intimate without intruding, artistic without artifice. Camilla Greenwell’s work reminds us that the camera can be not just an observer, but a partner in revealing the subtle, extraordinary beauty of human expression.

Camilla Greenwell is a director and photographer whose work explores human connection. With a background in visual arts and dance, she has spent the past decade capturing the intersection of reality and performance, often focusing on movement, intimacy and the stories that unfold within those spaces. Through her photography, Camilla seeks out glimmers of surrealism within the everyday, as well as mundane moments in the fantastical. Creating stunning visual narratives, she invites the viewer in on her process as much as the final image. Her clients include Apple, TOAST, the telegraph, vogue, FT WEEKEND, Sadler’s wells, the royal ballet and opera and the Guardian. She was a winner of the British journal of photography x Nikon female in focus award, 2025 and her image of the artist Gertrud Patschke was selected for the Taylor Wessing portrait prize, 2025. Her image of artist Hetain Patel was shortlisted in 2024.
